Streptomyces

Streptomyces are Gram-positive filamentous soil bacteria with a complex life-cycle involving differentiation and sporulation. The formation of secondary metabolites of Streptomyces is initiated with a morphological switch from vegetative to aerial mycelium. They are the most important source of antibiotics like chloramphenicol, tetracycline, streptomycin, neomycin and the anti-cancer drug daunorubicin. Their production in Streptomyces is regulated by a complex network of proteins. However, the stability of antibiotic production could decrease after several cultivation passages of Streptomyces cells on growth media.

Use a freshly prepared Streptomyces culture from a new cryo-vial stored at minus 80°C or minus 196°C for secondary metabolite production assays.

CCOS special property strains like Streptomyces sp. CCOS 447 are available as actively growing cultures or as cryo cultures. We look forward to receiving your order and please for further details.
