Streptcococcus tigurinus
Streptococcus tigurinus CCOS 600Streptococcus tigurinus is a novel pathogen associated with invasive infections (Zbinden et al., 2012a; Zbinden al. 2012b). Streptococcus tigurinus strains were detected in human blood, aortic valve, mistral valve, periarticular hip biopsy, vertebral body biopsy and cerebrospinal fluid of patients with diagnosis of endocarditis, meningitis, spondylodiscitis and bacteremia.
Streptococcus tigurinus seems rarely to be present as part of the oral microbial flora (Zbinden et al. 2012b).
Further identification of Streptococcus tigurinus strains helps to determine their natural habitat and potential for colonization.
The following Streptococcus tigurinus strains described by Dr. Andrea Zbinden are now available from CCOS:

Streptococcus tigurinus type strain AZ_6 showed slight resistance to tetracycline.
Streptococcus tigurinus strains are available from the CCOS as actively growing cultures or cryo cultures, the whole set of all S. tigurinus strains can be ordered at a special price.
