Antagonistic Yeasts on Filamentous Fungi from Agroscope

Filamentous fungi are among the most important plant pathogens and cause a plethora of rot or wilt diseases by colonizing roots, shoots, flowers, fruits and vegetables. Natural occuring yeasts are studied as potential antagonists and biocontrol agents against such diseases because they often exhibit strong activity, are easy to cultivate, and are usually considered safe. These yeasts and filamentous fungi strains (CCOS 976 - 1015 and CCOS 1017-1023) collected from agricultural samples in Waedenswil were deposited at CCOS and have been used for quantifying the antagonistic activity against saprophytic, beneficial and plant pathogenic fungi in dual culture assays (Hilber-Bodmer et al., 2017).
