Identification of Microorganisms
The CCOS identification service offers you the following advantages:
- Identification of various biological specimens (prokaryote and eukaryote)
- Identification down to species level
- Identification in complex matrices
- Identification with different methods (polyphasic apporach)
All samples we analyze receive a certificate of analysis which can be used e.g. for concession purposes.
Analysis Methods
CCOS uses different methods for identification:
Name | Method |
Microscopy | Classical microbial method |
Growth morphology | Classical microbial method |
Standard test | Classical microbial method (oxidase, catalase, gram etc.) |
MIDI Sherlock | Gas chromatic fatty acid analysis |
Vitek2 | Phenotypical analysis and antibiotic susceptibility testing |
Biolog | Phenotypical analysis |
MALDI-TOF-MS | Mass spectroscopic protein analysis |
DNA sequencing | DNA sequence based analysis (16S rDNA, houskeeping genes etc.) |
rep-PCR | PCR-based fingerprinting method |
Further Information
CCOS accepts biological only material classified into biosafety risk groups 1 or 2. The service is performed on a strictly confidential basis. After completion of the identification all materials will be destroyed or will be treated as requested by the customer. For some genera an identification to species level is not possible due to low taxonomic resolution, in this case only an identification on genus level will be provided. For more accurate analysis a polyphasic approach with two or more identification methods is recommended.
