Selenocysteine from yeast
Selenocysteine is the 21st proteinogenic amino acid and therefore an interesting supplement for food and health products. Yeasts that grow at high selenium concentrations are considered to integrate much of ionic selenium into organic selenium and thus could be a reliable source for selenocysteine. That is why CCOS checked some of its Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains for the grow on agar plates with high concentrations of selenium.
